Magnesium

Magnesium is an essential mineral involved in over 300 enzymatic reactions in the body. It plays a central role in muscle contraction, nervous system regulation, blood glucose control and sleep quality. Magnesium glycinate was specifically chosen for its high bioavailability and digestive tolerability.

Magnesium supports:

  • Muscle relaxation and reduced soreness

  • Nervous system regulation and sleep quality

  • Stress resilience and mood balance

  • Healthy blood pressure and metabolic function

  • Support during PMS and hormonal transitions

For women, magnesium levels in the body can be influenced by stress, menstrual blood loss, dietary intake and hormonal fluctuations. Low magnesium levels have been associated with fatigue, sleep disruption, muscle tension and increased PMS symptoms. Since sleep plays such a fundamental role in our ability to train effectively, focus cognitively and manage stress, magnesium can play an important role as a supplement.

Magnesium glycinate is the combination of magnesium with the amino acid glycine. Dietary sources of magnesium glycinate include leafy greens, nuts and seeds, and fruits such as bananas, dried figs, and blackberries. Magnesium contributes to:

  • Regulation of neuromuscular signalling

  • ATP production (like creatine, it plays a role in cellular energy metabolism)

  • Blood glucose regulation and insulin sensitivity

  • Modulation of stress-related neurological pathways

While magnesium supplementation does not “treat” anxiety or depression, evidence suggests it may support mood and nervous system regulation, particularly in individuals with low intake or deficiency.
