Rhodiola rosea

Rhodiola rosea is a clinically studied adaptogen traditionally used to support the body’s response to stress. While creatine supports cellular energy directly, Rhodiola works by influencing how the body adapts to physical and psychological stressors.

Rhodiola rosea supports:

  • Reduced mental and physical fatigue

  • Improved resilience to everyday stress

  • Enhanced endurance during demanding training

  • Sharper focus and cognitive performance under pressure

  • Mood support, particularly during hormonally related mood disturbances

Women often experience sustained cognitive and emotional load layered on top of hormonal fluctuations. Research suggests Rhodiola may help buffer stress-related fatigue and support sustained training performance during these times, without acting as a stimulant. It is best understood as a regulating, resilience-support compound.

Rhodiola rosea influences the body’s stress-response system, particularly the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis. Its active compounds — rosavins and salidrosides — are standardised in quality extracts. Research suggests Rhodiola may:

  • Help modulate stress-related signalling pathways, including cortisol dynamics (rather than simply “lowering” cortisol)

  • Influence neurotransmitters such as serotonin and dopamine, which are linked to mood and motivation

  • Improve perceived exertion and endurance capacity in certain exercise contexts

  • Act as an antioxidant, potentially supporting recovery
